I arrived at Hickory Trail in handcuffs after my release from --edited--. I was informed I was a danger to myself. My diagnois was --edited-- and --edited--. While I agreed 100% with the first, I was in denial of the latter. It took one group therapy session for me to understand and admit my addiction to --edited--  and that my --edited--  , coupled with anxiety, had led me to self medicate for so many years.

Hickory Trail – from my doctors to my techs – joined together in my treatment. It took several medication changes to treat my depression and anxiety, but no one gave up on me. More importantly, they convinced me to not give up on myself. I have been hospitalized before – including one rehab for alcohol – but I now see that I was always released too soon, and without the correct meds and proper coping skills.

I write this knowing I will be discharged for Hickory Trail in a few hours and I feel strong – both mentally and physically. I leave intensive inpatient, and from here to partial hospitalization at Hickory Trail, to continue to learn coping skills necessary to keep anxiety and life events from turning me to the bottle. This Time, I won’t quit until it is time. I know that now because of my treatment at Hickory Trail. I recommend the hospital to anyone and everyone suffering from depression or other mental disorder and/or alcohol or drug dependence. If I feel this good, this strong after --edited--  plus years of heavy drinking, anxiety and panic attacks, I believe everyone can and will take home what they came here for.

This is the first time I am leaving a place where I was placed due to suicidal intentions with the tools and burgeoning skills to help myself stop the suicidal cycle with continuing help after I leave here. Finally, I feel like I can actually survive, learn to live life and be happy. These folks have provided wonderful tools. Thanks. --omitted--
