I arrived at Hickory Trail in handcuffs after my release from --edited--. I was informed I was a danger to myself. My diagnois was --edited-- and --edited--. While I agreed 100% with the first, I was in denial of the latter. It took one group therapy session for me to understand and admit my addiction to --edited--  and that my --edited--  , coupled with anxiety, had led me to self medicate for so many years.

Hickory Trail – from my doctors to my techs – joined together in my treatment. It took several medication changes to treat my depression and anxiety, but no one gave up on me. More importantly, they convinced me to not give up on myself. I have been hospitalized before – including one rehab for alcohol – but I now see that I was always released too soon, and without the correct meds and proper coping skills.

I write this knowing I will be discharged for Hickory Trail in a few hours and I feel strong – both mentally and physically. I leave intensive inpatient, and from here to partial hospitalization at Hickory Trail, to continue to learn coping skills necessary to keep anxiety and life events from turning me to the bottle. This Time, I won’t quit until it is time. I know that now because of my treatment at Hickory Trail. I recommend the hospital to anyone and everyone suffering from depression or other mental disorder and/or alcohol or drug dependence. If I feel this good, this strong after --edited--  plus years of heavy drinking, anxiety and panic attacks, I believe everyone can and will take home what they came here for.

This is the first time I am leaving a place where I was placed due to suicidal intentions with the tools and burgeoning skills to help myself stop the suicidal cycle with continuing help after I leave here. Finally, I feel like I can actually survive, learn to live life and be happy. These folks have provided wonderful tools. Thanks. --omitted--

I was suffering. Plain and simple. Then Hickory trail entered into my mental health crisis. And slowly they taught me how to take my life back. They taught me how to control my grieving. The staff lovingly reached out to me and one by one my issues began to dissolve. When I came to the staff, I was beside myself with grief. Upon leaving I found myself to be truly free and authentic human being. Much Love.

Hickory Trail Hospital is a good place to be for mental illness. I am ready to get my family and life back. I like having peace of mind. Recreation therapy gives me peace of min because I have been in the house for months.

I’ve been here before, but as an adolescent…and I didn’t like it!! I do believe I like the adult unit… for it being my first time that is. The nurses are all ears. The techs are on point, patient and very helpful. Everyone is very understanding. Although today is the first day of me being here… I really enjoyed therapy with Ms. Christy. (Normally I hate therapy and don’t talk but I did for the first time right off the bat today… and trust me… that says a lot! Ms. Tori is also a person I give Kudos to b/c although she was busy, she still got me what I needed. She was patient. She also notified me about things that will be occurring that dealt with me. And she is the first to take the time to do that for me. And I appreciate that a lot. I do believe its going good so far.

HTH was the best place for me to get help. They helped me with my attitude and my drinking. But the best things were that they were so clean, and the staff was always there to answer any questions you had. I would like to say thank you for everything you did for me and I want to tell anybody who needs help to come to Hickory Trail Hospital. Thanks Sincerely, --edit--

When asked to write a Patient Testimonial for Hickory Trail Hospital my initial thought was, "No problem" since I am generally pretty good at writing. When I came home on --omitted--  I thought that I'd start right away. I cannot tell you how many times I started and re-started this paper. It has proved to be more difficult than I had imagined. My life has changed so drastically it is hard to put it into words. Truth be told, I don't think there are any words to adequately describe just how thankful I am to the facility and each and every staff member that works here. Although the work was done by me, it is because of YOU I am the person who is proud to be able to write this testimonial.

When I first entered your facility I was truly a 'broken man'. I saw no hope in going any further than the --omitted--   [gulpl] years that I am. Although I entered Hickory Trail at my own will, when I arrived I was scared beyond words. I think that it's only fair to say that anyone who enters a mental hospital for the very first time would probably be overwhelmed with anxiety and apprehension such as I did. I actually thought to myself, "Relax --omitted--  ...You will be in and out of here by the end of the day. Just be calm and follow their instructions and they will send you home in time for dinner," I was then lead to the section where I would be housed. It was there I was met by Miss Jackie, the floor technician. She was WONDERFUL! She put me at ease right away, however, when she asked me for my watch, belt, and shoe laces my first thought was that I was not be going to be home in time for dinner. After chatting with me for a moment, Miss Jackie then walked me around and gave me a brief tour of the unit. While walking, I kept thinking to myself that I don't belong here with 'these people'. Truth be told, this is EXACTLY where I needed to be. I just didn't realize this until later. There were people on the unit with a wide variety of problems and issues.
